Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Current research evidence describes the impact of Childhood Apraxia of Speech [CAS] and Speech Sound Disorder [SSD] on later literacy development.  Explore what we know and how to best support students on your caseload.

Complex Medical History

As advances are made in both medical intervention and car safety, mainstream classrooms today contain students who may have experienced complex medical interventions in the early childhood years.  What challenges might this present for instruction and intervention?

Co-occurring Disability

Research has shown that many students with Developmental Language Disorder will have co-occurring Dyslexia.  This may also include co-occurring difficulties with attention, executive function or other disability.  Explore how to tailor intervention to develop individual student profiles.

About the course

This course explores evidence-based approaches to supporting students who are at risk of reading and literacy difficulties due to Childhood Apraxia of Speech, disability, or other medical factors. Participants will examine current research and learn how to translate evidence into practical strategies tailored to the individual needs of each student. The course covers assessment techniques, intervention planning, and progress monitoring, highlighting how to adapt teaching for diverse learners. Educators and Speech Pathologists will gain tools to design personalised, effective interventions, ensuring that students at risk receive targeted support to improve literacy outcomes and achieve academic success.
