Achieving Reading Fluency

Do all students naturally learn to read fluently? And if not, how might you support students to develop reading fluency? And, how fast is fast enough?  Explore these questions and more to build your toolkit of research knowledge and practical application.

Supporting Spelling

What are the best approaches to supporting student spelling? What role might language and vocabulary play in supporting spelling through morphology knowledge? How can technology be used to support skills. As a Speech Pathologist, what is our role in supporting spelling?

Interpreting Data

Deepen your knowledge and expand your toolkit of techniques and tools for the assessment and support of reading fluency and spelling skills with a focus on the students who are at risk of poor progress. Learn how to make data driven decisions based on indiviudal student profiles.

About the course

This course explores the critical role of spelling and reading fluency in literacy, showing how accurate, paced, and expressive reading supports comprehension and higher-level thinking, while strong spelling skills enhance reading, writing, and overall language understanding. Participants will examine evidence-based approaches to supporting student spelling, including the role of language, vocabulary, and morphology knowledge. The course will also cover technology tools to support skill development and highlight the Speech Pathologist’s role in assessment and intervention. You will deepen your knowledge, expand your toolkit, and learn to make data-driven decisions tailored to individual student profiles, focusing on those at risk of poor progress.
